Do I want a HMD: Yes

Notes:

Background:
Some men are born of a mother, others are only truly ‘born’ within the heat of battle. And then there are those who come from the test tube, born to fit whichever purpose their creators so desire.
The latter is where Ataru comes from.
A product of the MJP project, Ataru, in some senses, is only a few years old, whilst having the body and cognitive development of teenager. This is because his awareness of life prior to proper enlistment was cut away from him, memories of a surrogate family that raised him no longer part of his being, just the future within the project. Rather than the vision of space exploration that had been initially laid out for him and his comrades however, he instead finds his path turning towards combat and warfare, as the MJP project is repurposed from being the explorer of the final frontier, into mankind’s defenders against that which comes from beyond their borders.

And he is gonna loooove it! …Or he would, if he wasn’t stuck as part of the infamous ‘Fail Five’, pretty much the worst team at the academy. But how’s that ever gonna change? (Because the plot says so)

Personality:
The word ‘confident’ sums up Ataru pretty nicely, both as a compliment and a snide remark against his character, depending on the context within which it is used. Where many teens fret over uncertainties of their identity, or whether or not they even truly like something, Ataru has no such concerns. He loves military hardware and he loves the ladies – and will fawn over one and flirt with the other at the drop of a hat, assured of his own charm in either regard, though his tendency to mix the two leaves a lot to be desired. He has a particular affection for things and objects that he regards as being ‘mature’, claiming that it makes him a man of refinement and class, despite his perhaps at times brazen attitude.

In truth, for all his boasting and swagger, he’s more like a kid who pretty much lives in the candy store. And of course, the boasting of a child can be often more embellished than normal – Ataru can in fact be quite easily flustered with not much prodding. He’d certainly be stumped if people ever actually responded to his particular method of socialising positively, having no experience beyond that point. But, if there’s anything Ataru can also do, it’s eventually rolling with the situation, figuring that if he has to, he’ll just wing it. It’s how he maintains his typical, excitable attitude, never worrying too much or letting himself be weighed down. Ironically, this also helps to make him one of the most restrained members of his team, which lends to his abilities as a sniper – able to remain relatively calm and steady as the storm of battle rages on around him.

Capabilities and Resources:
Somewhat obsessed when it comes to technology – particularly if it has a military capacity – Ataru can easily identify a wide range of hardware in a single glance, and spout off specifications, features, and even history in short order. In reality, this is down to a particular feature he possesses as a result of his genetic engineering, namely that he has a selective memory to which he can commit immaculate detail, should something be of importance to him (you know, like the guns). In addition, he is a remarkably skilled marksman for his age, and with the right equipment, claims he could hit a target from orbit.

Unit Name: AHSMB Gold Four (Here
Unit Description: An ‘Advanced High Standard Multi Purpose Battle Device’ – or AHSMB for short, is relatively rare prototype unit developed for the MJP project, each effectively custom built for their pilot. For Ataru then, Gold Four is a long range, sniper based machine, intended to take out targets from afar and with precision, rather than up close and personal. To that effect, its primary loadout is a charged particle cannon that pretty much is its entire right arm, and a missile pack intended as anti-aircraft artillery. It can also be equipped with additional, mountable weaponry, including a wrist based machine gun, missile packs, and a secondary particle gun slung over the back. It even has deployable studs upon its feet, in order to secure its footing so it can take a surface shot. All this combat capability is at the expense of some pretty hefty maintenance, sure to keep the pit crew busy after each deployment.

Yet the most remarkable feature about this machine is one it shares with its kindred units – the JURIA system. On one level, it might seem like just any other biometric recognition system, keying the units to their specified pilots, and no other. In reality, its purpose is to heighten pilot-unit synchronisation by having the very core of the units programmed with their controller’s DNA, effectively making the unit an extension of the pilot themselves. This however is a two way street, as without solid determination and resolution, the AHSMB can be thrown into utter disarray, as the instincts of the pilot – most commonly fight or flight, typically flight – can and will override conscious thought, and so they must be able to control themselves in order to properly control their machines.

Space: Yes
Favored terrain: Space

Upgrades: When the Wulgaru make a move towards Earth itself, Gold Four finds itself able to be equipped with a high power optical weapon, capable of piercing enemies with a high power shot at the speed of light itself!
…Which also means it requires absolute and total accuracy, which means accounting for stuff like planetary rotation, gravitational distortions, atmospheric conditions, and all sorts of other stuff. Because once the trigger is pulled, there isn’t gonna be another shot for a while.

Wingmen: Aside of his support ship, not really – mostly for the launch sequence anyway.

Mission requirement: First MJP mission – the Fail Five’s first real shot.
Suggested Event List: Already covered by Izuru.
